Translation--Theory and Practice: A Historical Reader Translation: Theory and Practice: A Historical Reader responds to the need for a collection of primary texts on translation, in the English tradition, from the earliest times to the present day. Based on an exhaustive survey of the wealth of available materials, the Reader demonstrates throughout the link between theory and practice, with excerpts not only of significant theoretical writings but of actual translations, as well as excerpts on translation from letters, interviews, autobiographies, and fiction.

Tales of Moonlight and Rain

Tales of Moonlight and RainFirst published in 1776, the nine gothic tales in this collection are Japan's finest and most celebrated examples of the literature of the occult. They subtly merge the world of reason with the realm of the uncanny and exemplify the period's fascination with the strange and the grotesque. This new translation, by a noted translator and scholar, skillfully maintains the allure and complexity of Akinari's original prose.

Abadazad - a comic with dark victorian background and literary referencesAbadazad - a comic with dark victorian background....

"Abadazad" is a part of a much wider CrossGen (general series name) stories. I hope to publish the whole on englishtips because I think they are worth it: basing on many wonderfull litterary classics, having good, rich English and being all beautifully illustrated. A note for Polish users: some of these volumes were not so long ago published in Polish translation. You may like to check if the translation is good enough for this excellent comic!!!

Abadazad tells the tale of a young girl, Kate, whose younger brother Matt disappears at an amusement park and is eventually presumed dead. As young children, Kate and Matt read a series of books by an author named Franklin O. Barrie about an imaginary land where the beautiful and oddball collide....
altReuploaded. Enjoy!

Translation As Text (Translation Studies 1)

Translation As Text (Translation Studies 1)Translation as Text is the direct successor of the volume Text and Translation, published as Uebersetzungswissenschaftliche Beitraege 8 in 1985. Positive response to the original monograph and its successful use as a reference in advanced translation classes in Germany and other countries encouraged us to extensively revise the volume and add new material. We have attempted to clarify the theoretical position and methodological assumptions that were implicit in the earlier version. A new first chapter places the volume in the context of the variety of modern approaches to translation. The monograph describes translation studies as the empirical study of the relationships among translator, the process of translation, and the text.
