Ideas of social interaction are increasingly having an impact upon research into the learning and teaching of second languages. The aims of this book are to:
demonstrate the importance of investigating second language learning and teaching from a social-interactional and sociocultural perspective;
describe the implications of the social-interaction perspective for the practice of language teaching and learning including teacher education;
outline some interdisciplinary links between the social-interactional and sociocultural approaches to language learning and teaching and other approaches such as the social constructionist approach.
