A Practical English Grammar - COMBINED EXERCISES. VOLUME ONE (2nd edition)
The ten books of exercises which accompany the author’s A Practical English Grammar have been combined into two volumes. This first volume contains Books 1, 2, 3, , and 6.
References at the head of each exercise refer to paragraphs in A Practical English Grammar. Where necessary, two sets of references are given, one for the first and one for the second edition.
The exercises are graded “A”, “B”, or “C”. “A” means “difficult”, “B” means “moderately difficult”, and “C” means “easy”.

The First Collier (Guardians of Ga'hoole, Book 9)

It is a time of Legends and a time of chaos. Warlords vie for power and marauding outlaws roam the land. Good King Hrath and his queen, Siv, noble Spotted Owls struggle to keep peace in their kingdom. Grank, noble Spotted Owl, friend and supporter of King Hrath, has exiled himself to Beyond the Beyond, where he has developed his firesight and learns how to work with embers, fire and how to forge metals. He is the First Collier. Deep in a volcano in the farthest reaches of Beyond the Beyond, he discovers a magical Ember but fears its awful powers will be misused and hides it again.
Rhyming text describes how various mishaps reduce ten little bunnies down to one. The tale begins with 10 plump, stuffed-animal-like rabbits; each wears or carries a distinguishing item, e.g., a necklace or skates. Individuals or not, nine of these rodents are thoroughly foolhardy, and as they heedlessly hop along, they vanish one by one. The first falls off a wall, another is carried off by a witch, yet another fatally interrupts a bear. The last bunny waves a wand and magically resurrects his nine friends.
PreSchool-Bright colors and cartoon critters invite preschoolers to enjoy this book of sounds. Twenty creatures, both feathered and furry, are on their way to raid the fruits and vegetables in the farmer's pickup. Each page features two animals at a time as they hurry to the feast. The farmer comes to shoo them away, but only after they've eaten their fill. They scatter and talk about what a great day it's been as they settle down for the night. The first line of the large-print text on each page is the sound each beast makes, and the second line rhymes with the first. The watercolor illustrations on white backgrounds are full of action and personality.
The first title in a new series of crime mysteries is set in 18th-century London where what at first appears to be a suicide, turns out to be the victim of a very clever murderer who is still at large.
