Syntax within the Word: Economy, allomorphy, and argument selection in Distributed Morphology
Syntax within the Word provides a multifaceted look into the syntactic framework of Distributed Morphology (DM) within the Minimalist program. For those unfamiliar with the theory, this monograph provides an overview of DM and argues its strengths. For those more familiar with DM, this monograph provides analyses of familiar data much of which has not been treated within the framework: argument selection, stem allomorphy and suppletion, nominal compounds in English (feet-first vs. *heads-first), and the structure of the verb phrase.
The Italian master explains why he always insists on exhaustive research and discusses ecological issues such as roof energy accumulation capacity. His knowledge of the structural strengths of various natural fibres and thermal insulation goes hand in hand with his scheme of avoiding non-renewable energy sources. Intelligent buildings, methods of recycling, understanding of topography all fit into the overall architectural design. The most advanced building systems are also inexpensive in forming ecological spaces.

After the many interdisciplinary perspectives on nonverbal communication offered by the author in his previous seven John Benjamins books, which have generated a wide range of scholarly applications, the present monograph is dominated by a very broad concept of translation.
Translation as Text is the direct successor of the volume Text and Translation, published as Uebersetzungswissenschaftliche Beitraege 8 in 1985. Positive response to the original monograph and its successful use as a reference in advanced translation classes in Germany and other countries encouraged us to extensively revise the volume and add new material. We have attempted to clarify the theoretical position and methodological assumptions that were implicit in the earlier version. A new first chapter places the volume in the context of the variety of modern approaches to translation. The monograph describes translation studies as the empirical study of the relationships among translator, the process of translation, and the text.
