Encyclopedia of the American Revolution

This book is a handy reference for the Revolution. It is jam-packed with valuable information, trivia, references, and wisdom that is seldom found in an encyclopedia-type volume. Written for the researcher in mind, this book is invaluable. This volume is highly recommended, and it is useful, and quite literally, indispensable for the serious student.

The Myth of the Spoiled Child: Challenging the Conventional Wisdom about Children and ParentingIn The Myth of the Spoiled Child, Alfie Kohn systematically debunks these beliefs--not only challenging erroneous factual claims but also exposing the troubling ideology that underlies them. Complaints about pushover parents and coddled kids are hardly new, he shows, and there is no evidence that either phenomenon is especially widespread today--let alone more common than in previous generations. Moreover, new research reveals that helicopter parenting is quite rare and, surprisingly, may do more good than harm when it does occur. The major threat to healthy child development, John argues, is posed by parenting that is too controlling rather than too indulgent.

VI The Man with the Twisted Lip [UNABRIDGED AUDIOBOOK WITH TEXT]After rescuing a friend's husband from an East End opium den, Dr. Watson rather improbably finds his friend Sherlock Holmes there, disguised as an old man apparently trying to extract information from the addicts in the den.

Mr. Neville St. Clair, a respectable and punctual country businessman, has disappeared. Making the matter even more mysterious is that Mrs. St. Clair is quite sure that she saw her husband at a second-floor window in a rather rough part of town near the docks. He withdrew into the window immediately, and Mrs. St. Clair is quite sure that there was something very wrong...
