Spanish American Poetry after 1950 - Beyond the VanguardSpanish American Poetry after 1950 - Beyond the Vanguard

Providing a basis for understanding the main lines of development of poetry in Spanish America after Vanguardism, this volume begins with an overview of the situation at the mid-century: the later work of Neruda and Borges, the emergence of Paz. Consideration is then given to the decisive impact of Parra and the rise of colloquial poetry, politico-social poetry [Dalton, Cardenal] and representative figures such as Orozco, Pacheco and Cisneros. The aim is to establish a few paths through the largely unmapped jungle of Spanish American poetry in the time period.

Gooney Bird Is So AbsurdGooney Bird Is So Absurd

It's a cold January at the Watertower Elementary School—the perfect weather for Gooney Bird Greene to break out her special brain-warming hat! It's a good thing she has one. Gooney Bird's brain will need to be as warm as possible this month, because Mrs. Pidgeon is teaching her class about poetry. Who knew there could be so many different ways to write a poem? But just when things are going well, the kids get some terrible news.

Poets of Modern Ireland : Text, Context, Intertext

Poets of Modern Ireland : Text, Context, IntertextWhile this is a worthwhile study and correctly identifies motivations and undercurrents, particularly in the author's choice of, mainly, Northern Irish poets, the fact that not even one of the exceptional women poets writing in Ireland today is included, means that the work does not reflect contemporary Ireland. Not in the whole, that is. Besides, the South also has a lot to share with the world. Maybe this is just an unfortunate choice of title?
But the book is good: Neil Corcoran is one of Britain's most accomplished commentators on contemporary poetry.

Book of LongingBook of Longing

Leonard Cohen wrote the poems in Book of Longing—his first book of poetry in more than twenty years—during his five-year stay at a Zen monastery on Southern California's Mount Baldy, and in Los Angeles, Montreal, and Mumbai. This dazzling collection is enhanced by the author's playful and provocative drawings, which interact in exciting, unexpected ways on the page with poetry that is timeless, meditative, and often darkly humorous. An international sensation, Book of Longing contains all the elements that have brought Cohen's artistry with language worldwide recognition.
