The Sociolinguistic Competence of Immersion Students (Second Language Acquisition)

The Sociolinguistic Competence of Immersion Students (Second Language Acquisition)This book is a significant contribution to an under-studied aspect of SLA research, namely the acquisition of sociolinguistic variation by immersion students who have learnt their second language primarily in an educational context. The student’s mastery of sociolinguistic competence is measured in relation to a range of phonetic, lexical and grammatical variants and to the factors that influence such mastery.

Lexical-Semantic Relations: Theoretical and practical perspectives (Lingvisticæ Investigationes Supplementa)Lexical-Semantic Relations: Theoretical and practical perspectives (Lingvisticæ Investigationes Supplementa)This collection of articles sketches the complexity of the subject of lexical-semantic relations and addresses semantic, lexicographic and computational issues on an array of meaning relations in different languages. It brings together a variety of linguistic studies on the contextualised construction of synonymy and antonymy in discourse. It shows that research on language and cognition calls for empirical evidence from different sources.

Semantics, Culture and Cognition: Universal human concepts in culture-specific configurations (Russian version)

Not everything that can be said in one language can be said in another. The lexicons of different languages seem to suggest different conceptual universes. Investigating cultures from a universal, language-independent perspective, this book rejects analytical tools derived from the English language and Anglo culture and proposes instead a "natural semantic metalanguage" formulated in English words but based on lexical universals.
The book is in Russian.

Lexical Semantics, Syntax and Event StructureLexical Semantics, Syntax and Event Structure

This book focuses on the linguistic representation of temporality in the verbal domain and its interaction with the syntax and semantics of verbs, arguments, and modifiers. Leading scholars explore the division of labour between syntax, compositional semantics, and lexical semantics in the encoding of event structure, encompassing event participants and the temporal properties associated with events.
