Firefighters: A Medical Dictionary, Bibliography, and Annotated Research Guide to Internet References

Firefighters: A Medical Dictionary, Bibliography, and Annotated Research Guide to Internet ReferencesIn March 2001, the National Institutes of Health issued the following warning: "The number of Web sites offering health-related resources grows every day. Many sites provide valuable information, while others may have information that is unreliable or misleading."Furthermore, because of the rapid increase in Internet-based information, many hours can

be wasted searching, selecting, and printing. Since only the smallest fraction of information dealing with firefighters is indexed in search engines, such as www.google.com or others, a non-systematic approach to Internet research can be not only time consuming, but also incomplete.

This book was created for medical professionals, students, and members of the general public who want to know as much as possible about firefighters, using the most advanced research tools available and spending the least amount of time doing so.

The Oxford Handbook of Memory
87

altThe strengths and weaknesses of human memory have fascinated people for hundreds of years, so it is not surprising that memory research has remained one of the most flourishing areas in science. During the last decade, however, a genuine science of memory has emerged, resulting in research and theories that are rich, complex, and far reaching in their implications. Endel Tulving and Fergus Craik, both leaders in memory research, have created this highly accessible guide to their field. In each chapter, eminent researchers provide insights into their particular areas of expertise in memory research. Together, the chapters in this handbook lay out the theories and presents the evidence on which they are based, highlights the important new discoveries, and defines their consequences for professionals and students in psychology, neuroscience, clinical medicine, law, and engineering.

Preparing To Teach Writing: Research, Theory, and Practice

Preparing To Teach Writing: Research, Theory, and PracticeThird edition of popular textbook for writing, English, and language-arts methods courses provides a comprehensive survey of theories, research and methods associated with teaching composition successfully. Includes examples and pedagogical aids.

Review:

Very Interesting!

This is a very well-written book for teachers. The author seems to know something about every subject that might be related to composition--the bibliography alone should be required reading for all prospective teachers; it's nearly 30 pages. I recommend this book very highly.

Review:

A "must read" for teachers

This is the most comprehensive book I've ever seen on composition and teaching. I mean, it has everything--psychology and writing, linguistics and writing, reading and writing. Also, the book goes way beyond theory and research to explain in clear language how an ordinary teacher like me can actually apply theory and research in the classroom. This is a really fine book, and I recommend it to everyone.
