The Penguin Readers Teacher’s Guide: Placement Tests have been designed to provide teachers with a quick and effective way of deciding whether students are ready to enjoy the next level of Penguin Readers. There are six levels of test, corresponding to levels 1–6 of the Penguin Readers. There are two tests at each level, the B Test providing a follow-up for re-testing in the event of the majority of the class not obtaining the requisite score. Each test is in multiple-choice format and so can be given and marked very quickly to aid a prompt decision.
Energy - Placement Test Test objectives The main purpose of the Energy placement test is to help you to place students at the correct level in the Energy series. It tests all the main grammar points covered at each level in the same order as the Students’ Books. The test can also be used to diagnose specific grammar problems. If you have more than one class at the same level, you can use the placement test to divide the classes up into groups of similar levels. It could also be used at the beginning and end of each level to test achievement over the school year or term.
The Success Placement Test is designed to help the teacher to place students at the right level of the Success series. It contains 100 Multiple Choice questions and is designed to last for an hour. If students get less than 60% of the answers right, they should use Success Elementary. If they get more than 70% of the answers right, they should use Success Pre-Intermediate. 60-70% of right answers puts students in the middle of the two levels and your decision as to where to place these students should depend on the level of the rest of the class.
