Skills for Life ESOL is a course for new arrivals in the UK wishing to study English. It is an adult course that takes students from beginner/starter level to a point equivalent to a GCSE in English. The course is designed to help new arrivals in the UK learn communicative English as quickly as possible. I focusses on real life scenarios for those living in the UK. It thus contains a lot of material and subjects not normally covered in general English coursebooks. It is written and produced by the UK Department of Education and Skills (DfES).
This Teacher’s Resource Book contains thirty-seven photocopiable activities and further ideas for you to use with New Headway Advanced. It is a completely new component for the Headway series and has been written with two aims in mind: to give teachers additional material that revises and extends the work in the Student’s Book and to give students lots of extra speaking practice!
Tune In develops listening skills and, introduces students to over 50 features of natural spoken English. Each lesson uses a step-by-step approach to teach students to understand what people say and how they say it. Students learn techniques such as how to check understanding, express uncertainty, and give polite negative answers. Easy-to-check material allows the teacher to focus on teaching rather than preparing.
Speakout is a comprehensive English course that helps adult learners gain confidence in all skill areas using authentic materials from the BBC. With its wide range of support material, it meets the diverse needs of learners in a variety of teaching situations and helps to bridge the gap between the classroom and the real world.
Authentic DVD material from the BBC provides the springboard for meaningful speaking and writing tasks.
The worktexts are appropriate for use with small groups, a full class, or by independent learners. The self-explanatory nature of the lessons frees the teacher for individual mentoring. Students from middle school through adult classes will appreciate the variety of contextual themes, which include humor, amazing facts, historical highlights, and excerpts from real-world documents and forms, as well as high-interest material from academic content areas. Both illustrations and graphic art are used to support the instruction and maintain interest.
