Convergence of Productivity - Cross-National Studies and Historical EvidenceConvergence of Productivity - Cross-National Studies and Historical Evidence

This comprehensive study is a collection of original articles that view the current state of knowledge of the convergence hypothesis. The hypothesis asserts that at least since the Second World War, and perhaps for a considerable period before that, the group of industrial countries was growing increasingly homogeneous in terms of levels of productivity, technology and per capita incomes. In addition, there was general catch up toward the leader, with gradual erosion of the gap between the leader country, the U.S., throughout most of the pertinent period, and that of the countries lagging most closely behind it.

Astronomy: The Solar System and BeyondAstronomy: The Solar System and Beyond

With this newly revised 6th edition of ASTRONOMY: THE SOLAR SYSTEM AND BEYOND, Mike Seeds and Dana Backman's goal is to help students use astronomy to understand science and use science to understand what we are. Fascinating and engaging, this text illustrates the scientific method and guides students to these fundamental questions: "What are we?" and "How do we know?"

The Statistics Problem SolverThe Statistics Problem Solver

Exceptionally useful for all persons taking courses in this field. The subject matter is thoroughly developed, beginning with basic probability and exting through binomial, normal, joint, discrete, and continuous distributions. Other sections deal with sampling, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, regression, and correlation analysis. An extensive number of applications are included.

46 Science Fair Projects for the Evil Genius

Using inexpensive, easy-to-find parts and tools, and following standard science fair requirements, these creative new projects test 46 theories from various disciplines, including physics, astronomy, energy, environmental science, and economics. Each project begins with an intriguing hypothesis that leaves plenty of room for you to add your own tweaks, making the project entirely different and new-the only limit is your imagination!

Prolegomenon to a Theory of Argument Structure (Linguistic Inquiry Monographs)

Prolegomenon to a Theory of Argument Structure (Linguistic Inquiry Monographs)This work is the culmination of an eighteen-year collaboration between Ken Hale and Samuel Jay Keyser on the study of the syntax of lexical items. It examines the hypothesis that the behavior of lexical items may be explained in terms of a very small number of very simple principles. In particular, a lexical item is assumed to project a syntactic configuration defined over just two relations, complement and specifier, where these configurations are constrained to preclude iteration and to permit only binary branching. The work examines this hypothesis by methodically looking at a variety of constructions in English and other languages.
