Contrastive Studies in Construction Grammar
11

Contrastive Studies in Construction GrammarThe papers in this volume provide a contrastive application of Construction Grammar. By referencing a well-described constructional phenomenon in English, each paper provides a solid foundation for describing and analyzing its constructional counterpart in another language. This approach shows that the semantic description (including discourse-pragmatic and functional factors) of an English construction can be regarded as a first step towards a "tertium comparationis" that can be employed for comparing and contrasting the formal properties of constructional counterparts in other languages.

The Philosophy of Universal Grammar
12

The Philosophy of Universal GrammarWhat is grammar? Why does it exist? What difference, if any, does it make to the organization of meaning? This book seeks to give principled answers to these questions. Its topic is 'universal' grammar, in the sense that grammar is universal to human populations.
A thoroughly interdisciplinary endeavour, the book seeks to systematically integrate the philosophy of language and linguistic theory.
