Jeff Carlson - Plague Year

Following the accidental release of a deadly nanotechnology (designed to fight cancer), much of the world's population is dead; in the California Sierras, above the plague's high-water mark (10,000 feet), Cameron Najarro, Albert Sawyers and their small group of survivors eke out a desperate living, turning to cannibalism for survival.

Skew Fields: Theory of General Division Rings (Encyclopedia of Mathematics and its Applications)Skew Fields: Theory of General Division Rings (Encyclopedia of Mathematics and its Applications)

Algebraists have studied noncommutative fields (also called skew fields or division rings) less thoroughly than their commutative counterparts. Most existing accounts have been confined to division algebras, i.e. skew fields that are finite dimensional over their center. This work offers the first comprehensive account of skew fields. It is based on the author's LMS Lecture Note Volume "Skew Field Constructions". The axiomatic foundation and a precise description of the embedding problem precedes an account of algebraic and topological construction methods. The author presents his general embedding theory with full proofs, leading to the construction of skew fields.

The Apothecary (Colonial People)The Apothecary (Colonial People)

For many, colonial America was a place of new beginnings. From the first settlers who arrived on the shores of Virginia in 1607, to the formation of the thirteen colonies, people eagerly began to start a new life and build their community. In Colonial People, the formative years of the United States come to life through the activities of its community members.
In this series, readers discover the roles and interconnections of such diverse members of the colonial community as apothecaries and farmers and many more. Each title explores aspects of their everyday life, their responsibilities, and their social life as colonial Americans.
