The Brothers and Sisters Learn to Write: Popular Literacies in Childhood and School Cultures

The Brothers and Sisters Learn to Write: Popular Literacies in Childhood and School CulturesBuilding on her groundbreaking work in "Writing Superheroes, Anne Dyson traces the influence of a wide-ranging set of "textual toys" from children's lives--church and hip-hop songs, rap music, movies, TV, traditional jump-rope rhymes, the words of professional sports announcers and radio deejays--upon school learning and writing. Wonderfully rich portraits of five African American first-graders demonstrate how children's imaginative use of wider cultural symbols enriches their school learning."

Coloring Outside the Lines: Mentoring Women into School Leadership (Suny Series in Women in Education)

Coloring Outside the Lines: Mentoring Women into School Leadership (Suny Series in Women in Education)Presents new practices and ideas for mentoring women for school leadership positions.

Coloring outside the Lines critically looks at mentoring from the perspective of women who have been historically marginalized in school leadership, and grounds itself in a variety of experiences, including those of women school leaders of color. Using a feminist poststructuralist framework, the authors deconstruct the mentoring of women within the culture of K-12 public school administration in which they work. Providing arguments that mentoring has been and can be discriminatory, the authors explore it as a vehicle for transformation and change in education leadership rather than abandoning it completely.

Women and School Leadership: International Perspectives (Suny Series in Women in Education)

Women and School Leadership: International Perspectives (Suny Series in Women in Education)International in scope, this is an unprecedented compilation of current theories and perspectives on women and leadership issues in schools at all levels.

This international collection of work by leading feminist scholars in educational administration from five Western liberal democratic countries presents “state-of-the-art” research on women in school leadership positions. The contributors focus on the need for critical reflections, which reveal hidden aspects of leadership phenomena, and advocate diverse forms of positive action to improve the condition for women in school settings. As such, this collection challenges the reader to consider the partiality of all perspectives on leadership, as well as future directions for research and practice. It also brings together views of schools and school systems at the macro level, with discussions and case studies focused on the micro levels of school life.

That's for the International Women's Day :D Enjoy! - stovokor
