The Deep Blue Good-ByThe Deep Blue Good-By

The Deep Blue Good-by is the first of 21 novels in the Travis McGee series by American author John D. MacDonald.
Travis McGee is one of the great characters in crime fiction, and John D. MacDonald a fascinating storyteller. You never know what either is going to do next, or say next; what is going on in their minds is as important, if not more so, then what is going on outside Travis's boat. All of which add up to a heckuva fun series.

The Poison TreeThe Poison Tree

It is the sweltering summer of 1997, and Karen is a strait-laced, straight-A university student. When she meets the impossibly glamorous Biba, a bohemian orphan who lives in a crumbling old mansion in Highgate with her enigmatic brother Rex, she is soon drawn into their world – but something terrible is about to happen, and someone's going to end up dead..
Already drawing comparisons to Barbara Vine, Tana French and Sophie Hannah, Erin Kelly is an extraordinarily talented new author.

Going to the Wars - The Experience of the British Civil Wars 1638-1651Going to the Wars - The Experience of the British Civil Wars 1638-1651

In the 1640s, thousands of young men in the British Isles set off to fight in the civil wars, full of enthusiasm and commitment to the cause. They were soon to be disillusioned. Accustomed to a relatively peaceful and secure way of life, the realities of battle - the mental strain, physical exhaustion, loneliness and violence - were devestating. In "Going to the Wars", Charles Carlton studies the British civil wars from the perspective of those who fought them, to argue that the event described by G.M. Trevelyan as the most important happening in our history, was also the most destructive.
