This second volume of a massive three-volume commentary compiled by an international team of scholars includes special discussions of diction in the Odyssey and the tradition of epic diction in general.
We find that there are six main qualities of composition. These six chapters are preceded by an initial chapter on the Figures of Speech, which have been discussed first, as they lie at the basis of all composition. It will be of great help to a beginner to know what they are and what use can be made of them for the purposes described in the subsequent chapters: 1. Perspicuity-clearness of diction Chap. II; 2. Simplicity-ease or naturalness of diction Chap. III; 3. Succinctness-brevity of diction Chap. IV; 4. Impressiveness-energy or force of diction Chap. V; 5. Euphony-harmony or smoothness of diction Chap. VI; 6. Picturesqueness-graphic diction Chap. VII

The Little Gold Grammar Book
THE LITTLE GOLD GRAMMAR BOOK is based on a simple but powerful observation: Individuals who develop outstanding grammar skills do so primarily by mastering a limited number of the most important grammar rules, which they use over and over again. What are these recurring rules? The answer to this question is the basis of this book. In addition to covering the basics of grammar, diction, and idioms, this book contains a 100-question grammar quiz, a collection of 50-plus word pairings (diction), a compilation of 200 idioms, and 30 multiple-choice problems to integrate key concepts.

One of the founders of structuralist literary theory, Gerard Genette here addresses the question of "literariness" -- of what it is that makes a text an aesthetic object. Published in French in 1991, Fiction and Diction explores the conditions under which a written or spoken text is perceived as "literature". With reference to writers and theorists from Aristotle to Moliere to Iris Murdoch, Genette investigates the different facets -- particularly "regimes", "criteria" and "modes" -- of literariness.
