This handbook is for teachers who are preparing candidates for English: Preliminary {or Schools, also known as Preliminary English Test (PET) for Schools. The introduction gives an overview of the exam and its place within Cambridge ESOL. This is followed by a focus on each paper and includes content, advice on preparation and example papers.

English: Preliminary for Schools is a new version of Cambridge English: Preliminary, also known as Preliminary English Test (PET), developed with exam content and topics targeted at the interests of school-age learners. It is at Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) published by the Council of Europe.
