Who Killed Palomino Molero? by Mario Vargas Llosa, winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature
Somebody tortured and murdered Palomino Molero, then left his corpse impaled in a tree. But who would have wanted to do this? Everyone interviewed by Silva and Lituma, the two policemen investigating the case, said that Molero, a singer with an enchanting voice, was naive and innocuous. Their investigation will lead Silva and Lituma to a nearby air force base and will expose the racial hatred in Peruvian society between whites and cholos (mixed race people).
