This upper-intermediate-level course can be used to follow "Towards Synthesis" or as an independent course. There are 15 units providing an average of five hours classwork each. The course draws together the students' previous language learning. Each unit develops the interrelated skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. "Reading" - texts are authentic in many cases and are of a length suitable for students of this level. "Writing" - always derives directly out of previous work and is always related to a model students can refer to. "Listening" - tasks are carefully graded for this level. Break points are indicated in the teacher's book so that the teacher can stop the tape at regular intervals and ask questions. This means the students are not listening to very long texts. "Speaking" - tasks are carefully built up so that students have practised the language necessary before attempting the activities. Language focus exercises revise and consolidate the major language points. The reference section at the back of the book gives full grammatical explanations and is cross-referenced to the language focus sections. Structural grading is precise. Tests are provided every five units to give a reliable guide to a student's progress.
