The aim of the text is to "bridge the gap" between 'classroom English' and the English that students are likely to encounter on their own. LISO contains 12 units, of which includes exercises for listening and speaking based on a one-minute monolog (usually a humorous anecdote and a 1.5 minute spontaneous discussion on a topic related to the monolog. LISO is designed to be used as the primary text in conversation course or as a supplementary text in a class which also teaches other kinds of listening comprehension and speaking skills (e.g. academic lecture comprehension, survival skills)
