It examines the social, intellectual, economic, cultural, and political changes that took place throughout Europe in the Cold War and Post Cold War periods.
It is easy to regard the school as a venue for learning, in the cognitive sense, and to forget that pupils are also learning a great deal about social life, social interactions and friendships, in school time. Indeed school will provide the major source of these experiences for most children, and this volume is devoted to these issues, and to aspects of differences between children (sex, ethnicity) which impact on these. This book takes a close look at the ways that five sign languages borrow elements from the surrounding, dominant spoken language community where each is situated. It offers careful analyses of semantic, morphosyntactic, and phonological adaption of forms taken from a source language (in this case a spoken language) to a recipient signed language.
