Content leveled readers teach social studies concepts, vocabulary, and reading skills – at each student’s reading level – and allow students to read and explore the wonders of nonfiction. Social Studies leveled readers deliver world and American history, geography, and civics content to help address the individual needs of all students. Below-level (green), On-level (yellow), and Advanced (blue) selections give all students additional reading experiences and teach social studies content at different levels to spark student curiosity and create eager learners.
From the perspective of multilingual communication, a language serves not only as a means and a medium of communication, it is also a highly complex system which enters into a relationship with other languages and imprints its own dynamics upon those human beings involved in interaction by structuring their “action spaces”. Participants in multilingual interactions can be said to activate links between language and actions, mental activities, perception, thought patterns, knowledge systems etc. – in short, all mental and cognitive processes involved in communication – which are active both universally and in each individual language.
It is fashionable to say that teaching can be the most rewarding profession there is – and it can be. We can all give examples of the pleasure of helping a child grow in knowledge and understanding, and achieve their potential. But what about the teacher? They shouldn’t be excluded from the benefits of lifelong learning because of their workload and desire to give, give, give. Growth and change are part of all our personal and professional lives, and teachers need to embrace them; not just to do a better job, but to enjoy doing it. Supporting teachers in their development – trainees, newly or recently qualified, in their first three, ten or twenty years, and whether they’re superb or struggling – is vital in improving the quality of teaching and learning in our schools.
