I really enjoyed the first two novels of the Straw Men trilogy and this one didn't disappoint, either. Marshall keeps a good pace, throws enough curves to keep things interesting, and leaves some deliciously unresolved plotlines without sacrificing the integrity of the story. The final chapter in the series, this novel is probably the most "serious" of the group, a more sober adventure than the previous installments which offered numerous moments of dark humor. But it's still a very interesting ride full of tension and bloody mayhem, from which there may be no survivors.
Language Acquisition of a Bilingual Child: A Sociolinguistic Perspective
The present study was begun 15 years ago and it will probably continue for many more years to come as it is my hope that this will become a truly longitudinal investigation. It is a developmental study of dual language acquisition by a single individual. And although the specifics of a single case study can never be directly generalized to other populations, what may be extrapolated is the interplay of variables which form the process of language development which we are attempting to understand more fully.
This book is designed as a preparation for the Intermediate English examinations. It provides step-by-step explanations of the techniques necessary to answer the understanding, analysis and evaluation questions to be found in close reading exercises as well as advice on the aspects of poetry which are likely to be tested in the Textual Analysis paper.
Provides summaries, new theoretical frameworks and new findings on how children learn to read. This book highlights how research has moved from descriptions of changes during learning towards understanding the processes by which learning takes place.
These books offer remarkable insights into the ideas out of which our present ways of thinking emerged and without which they cannot fully be understood.
