Jonathan Freedland, didn't choose his pseudonym at random (his books will be next to Brown's in most book stores). I complained about the uneven pace and incredible story (an incredible story is not bad in itself, but when an apparently regular mystery novel turns supernatural towards the end it demands too much suspension of disbelief (some authors can make the fantastic seem plausible but Bourne couldn't)).
The biggest surprise is that this book, aside from having the fairy tale thing going on, and a charming romance, also has a really good ghost story. The character of Remy will tug at your heart and I think it was this part of the story that was the most effective. I have read other books by this author and felt that this was by far her best effort. I probably won't recommend it to younger teens, but older ones should really enjoy it.
