Over the years, Wilshire Book Company has had thousands of requests from enthusiastic readers of Think and Grow Rich for Napoleon Hill's original eight-book series, The Law of Success in Sixteen Lessons. After many years of intensive and extensive research, we found a set of the books in mint condition. We are excited to finally be republishing this original, unabridged, classic edition of the world famous series, reproduced just as it first appeared in 1928 and compiled into a convenient two-volume set.

This is an incomplete 1902 translation of Prus' classic historical novel, "Pharaoh." (It is missing the author's stunning Epilog, which was restored only later from the original manuscript.)
The translator, Jeremiah Curtin, demonstrates an abysmally poor understanding of the original text's Polish language, and an equally poor grasp of English style. His primitive knowledge of the book's subject matter and his inept, wooden, inaccurate translation--it contains some real howlers--help explain the novel's limited appreciation, until recently, among English-language readers.

Jean-Louis Dessalles explores the co-evolutionary paths of biology, culture, and the great human edifice of language, linking the evolution of the language to the general evolutionary history of humankind. He provides searchingly original answers to such fundamental paradoxes as to whether we acquired our greatest gift in order to talk or so as to be able to think, and as to why human beings should, as experience constantly confirms, contribute information for the well-being of others at their own expense and for no apparent gain: which if this is one of language's main functions appears to make its possession, in Darwinian terms, a disadvantage.
