Lawson is among the best-known Australian poets and fiction writers of the colonial period, and is often called Australia's "greatest short story writer".
This is a book designed to provide students with carefully graded passages for oral or written reproduction. The aim is to train the student in the understanding and re-telling of material which he has listened to or read. The book consists of 54 illustrated anecdotes, each about 150 words in length and each followed by a short set of questions on the passage.
