Mary Higgins Clark "He Sees You When You're Sleeping" (2001)-Audiobook
Mary Higgins Clark, (b December 24, 1927 in the Bronx, New York) is an American author of suspense novels. Each of her twenty-four suspense novels has been a bestseller in the United States and various European countries, and all of her novels remain in print as of 2007, with her debut suspense novel, Where Are The Children, in its seventy-fifth printing.
Her work dwells primarily on a central theme: the psychological trauma endured and overcome by her strong female characters.
Setting aside his wildly popular Forgotten Realms books for the moment, Bob Salvatore continues to wade into his character-development-heavy Demon Wars saga with this meaty kickoff to the latest DW series. If you're familiar with the series (and if you're not, start with The Demon Awakens), you know that this ain't Icewind Dale. The generously developed characters take center stage, and they--much to our initial dismay, perhaps--are far from invincible. (More than a few hearts were broken when Elbryan the Nightbird, Touel'alfar-trained ranger extraordinaire, bit the dust in the last book, Demon Apostle.)
Never Be Lied to Again: How to Get the Truth In 5 Minutes or Less in Any Conversation or situation
When liars are being accused of something, they'll stay calm because
they're working on their rebuttal; this is why detectives were
suspicious of O.J. Simpson when he didn't express outrage when accused
of murdering his ex-wife and Ronald Goldman.
Never Be Lied to Again is bursting with tested tips like this for quickly determining when you're being boondoggled.Body language, facial expressions, sentence structure, and word choice can all reveal when someone is lying, says psychologist David J. Lieberman, and he includes 46 of these "clues to deception" to help you, including tricks for framing questions without putting others on the defense. Once you use your
newly honed "human lie detector" skills to figure out if you're being
lied to, you can then dig for the truth using the specific, influential
words and body postures that Lieberman suggests. Written with flair and
humor,
Never Be Lied to Again is designed to help you get the
upper hand in any situation, whether you're trying to figure out if
your spouse is cheating on you or if you suspect your coworkers are
cooking the books.
Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman! (Adventures of a Curious Character)
A series of anecdotes shouldn't by rights add up to an autobiography,
but that's just one of the many pieces of received wisdom that Nobel
Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman (1918-88) cheerfully ignores in
his engagingly eccentric book, a bestseller ever since its initial
publication in 1985. Fiercely independent (read the chapter entitled
"Judging Books by Their Covers"), intolerant of stupidity even when it
comes packaged as high intellectualism (check out "Is Electricity
Fire?"), unafraid to offend (see "You Just
Ask Them?"), Feynman informs by entertaining. It's possible to enjoy
Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman
simply as a bunch of hilarious yarns with the smart-alecky author as
know-it-all hero. At some point, however, attentive readers realize
that underneath all the merriment simmers a running commentary on what
constitutes authentic knowledge: learning by understanding, not by
rote; refusal to give up on seemingly insoluble problems; and total
disrespect for fancy ideas that have no grounding in the real world.
Feynman himself had all these qualities in spades, and they come
through with vigor and verve in his no-bull prose. No wonder his
students--and readers around the world--adored him.
