The Autobiography of Jack the RipperThe Autobiography of Jack the Ripper

This memoir was recently discovered and appears to have been written in the 1920s by someone who asserts that he was Jack the Ripper. This person is James Willoughby Carnac, and this memoir was written shortly before his death. It is an account of his entire life, including a few short months in 1888 when he became the murderer known to posterity as Jack the Ripper. This book introduces a new suspect for the infamous murders in Whitechapel in 1888.

Dr. H.H. Holmes and The Whitechapel RipperDr. H.H. Holmes and The Whitechapel Ripper

Serial killer doctor Henry Howard "H.H." Holmes was the most viable suspect for the 1888 Whitechapel London murders attributed to the enigma we have come to know as "Jack the Ripper". The research in this nonfiction true crime investigative journal of documents and case file historic accounts reveals startling information that leads the listener to perhaps the most hidden secrets behind the crimes. A "perfect dichotomy" that produces evidence that one man may have been a serial killer on two continents in the 19th century, responsible for the deaths of hundreds, or thousands of innocent victims.

Utopias (Whitechapel: Documents of Contemporary Art)Utopias (Whitechapel: Documents of Contemporary Art)

Utopian strategies in contemporary art seen in the context of the histories of utopian thinking and avant-garde art.
Throughout its diverse manifestations, the utopian entails two related but contradictory elements: the aspiration to a better world, and the acknowledgment that its form may only ever live in our imaginations. Furthermore, we are as haunted by the failures of utopian enterprise as we are inspired by the desire to repair the failed and build the new. Contemporary art reflects this general ambivalence.

The Sublime (Whitechapel: Documents of Contemporary Art)The Sublime (Whitechapel: Documents of Contemporary Art)

The sublime is spectacularly envisioned by the artists in this book, and gracefully articulated by its authors. The contributors show us that the world can still be transformed. Many of these works and texts perform the contemporary sublime. They open a schism between expectation and sensation, expanding the horizon between the known territories of the real and our capacity to imagine otherwise. They show us that we may still be taken by surprise
