The Discourse on the Method is one of the most influential works in the history of modern science. It is a method which gives a solid platform from which all modern natural sciences could evolve. Descartes started his line of reasoning by doubting everything, so as to assess the world from a fresh perspective, clear of any preconceived notions.
The Callan Method is based on actual classroom practice, on the psychological teacher-student relationship, and on their relationship to the language. When the Method was shown to some educational psychologists, one of them said "How else?". In other words, as language learning is a question of developing quick reflexes, how else can this be done than by a system of stimulus and response? The same psychologist went on to take an exaggerated example, by adding that one could teach a monkey to play the piano, given such techniques.
Colin Rose developed many of the Accelerated Learning techniques and pioneered how to apply the method for students, teachers and language learners.
However the method is certainly not the work of just one person. Dozens of universities, research psychologists and professional educators have contributed to produce this unique way of learning and presenting new information.
The techniques, for example, incorporate the work of Dr Howard Gardner of Harvard University on Multiple Intelligences, of Arthur Costa from UCLA and others on learning styles and of Nobel prize winners Roger Sperry and Robert Ornstein on the brain.
