Edmund Husserl's work is a cornerstone of Continental philosophy and the phenomenological tradition. Husserl stands as a key influence on such major philosophers as Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty and Sartre, and is required reading for anyone studying phenomenology and European philosophy of the last 100 years. However, the complex ideas central to his work, and the rather convoluted language in which they are expressed, mean that arriving at a full and clear understanding of Husserlian phenomenology is no small undertaking.

Suzanne Bachelard’s main preoccupation has been with the clarification of the phenomenological dimensions of all branches of knowledge. A dominant theme in her work is the claim that epistemology has two orientations: the subjective and the objective. Her translation of and commentary on Husserl’s Formal and Transcendental Logic (1968) are exemplars of scholarship in which she examines Husserl’s theory of science and clarifies the nature of his anti-psychologism.

Edmund Husserl is the founder of phenomenology. The Logical Investigations is Edmund Husserl's most famous work and has had a decisive impact on the direction of twentieth century philosophy. This is the first time both volumes of this classic work, translated by J.N. Findlay, have been available in paperback. They include a new introduction by Dermot Moran, placing the Logical Investigations in historical context and bringing out its importance for contemporary philosophy.
