Return to the Hundred Acre WoodReturn to the Hundred Acre Wood

Eighty years ago, at the end of The House at Pooh Corner, Christopher Robin said good-bye to Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood; now they are back in new adventures, for the first time approved by the Trustees of the Pooh Properties, in this companion volume that truly captures the style of the A. A. Milne classic.

Lugarno (Ebook)Lugarno (Ebook)

I was about to punch in the number when a man loomed up beside me. When I say loomed I mean loomed - he was tall and wide with a shaven head, and the pale hand that plucked the mobile from my grasp and threw it away was super-sized. 'Hey,' I protested. He just stood there, a pace away now - a hundred kilos of bone and muscle in T-shirt and jeans. I had a gun and a tyre iron and I thought I'd need both to make an impression on him, but they were in the car. For now, it was just me.

Jamaica Talk - Three Hundred Years of the English Language in JamaicaJamaica Talk - Three Hundred Years of the English Language in Jamaica

First published in 1961, Jamaica Talk is a thorough study of the English spoken in Jamaica and, although intended for the general educated reader rather than the linguistic specialist, has a foundation of sound scholarship, which makes it an authoritative classic. The late Professor Cassidy was born and reared in Jamaica and collected most of the material for his book when he was attached to the University College of the West Indies as Fulbright research fellow. There are chapters on the composition of "Jamaica talk", on pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary.

The Last Hundred Days

The Last Hundred DaysThe Last Hundred Days

The socialist state is in crisis, the shops are empty and old Bucharest vanishes daily under the onslaught of Ceaucescu's demolition gangs. Paranoia is pervasive and secret service men lurk in the shadows. In The Last 100 Days, Patrick McGuinness creates an absorbing sense of time and place as the city struggles to survive this intense moment in history. He evokes a world of extremity and ravaged beauty from the viewpoint of an outsider uncomfortably, and often dangerously, close to the eye of the storm as the regime of 1980s Romania crumbles to a bloody end.
