As hack writing goes, this guy has flashes of impish insight and wicked wit within the mostly pedestrian prose. It was probably written quickly under deadline pressure for a small amount of money. However, the author succeeds in fulfilling the mandate for a book of this kind. It is what it claims to be, no more, no less: an informative, how-to guide.

The big problem with predicting the end of the world is that, if proved right, there can be no basking in glory. This has not, however, dissuaded armies of Cassandras from predicting the demise of our planet or the human race, only to expire themselves without the opportunity to proclaim 'I told you so'. To somewhat adapt the words of the great Mark Twain, the death of our race has been greatly exaggerated. The big question is, however, how long will this continue to be the case?
This monograph is an investigation of cliticization processes attested throughout Otfrid von Weissenburg's Old High German Evangelienbuch. Its central argument may be simply stated: attestations such as meg ih 'I am able to,' theiz 'that it,' and wolt er 'he wanted' comprise a host and clitic and are all manifestations of one unified process of cliticization. Establishing the crucial elements of the argument, however, requires that we reach beyond a phonological and prosodic account of the cliticization process.
Grade 7-10-Crompton presents the background history in his first three chapters, and devotes the bulk of the book to a description of the battle. However, the only two maps are unclear reproductions of old battle drawings and are of extremely limited value.
