Nearly all puzzle books published today grossly underestimate the intelligence of their public. The reader can no longer be entertained with the simple match-trick or coin puzzles, neither does he want to see problems purely mathematical in nature, such as can be found in any textbook. We have tried to produce a book of those puzzles which lie between the two extremes.
There was a great pantry in my mother's house. It was full of the most wonderful things. Exotic herbs and ingredients were stored in crocks and jars. Handmade pickles, jellies and jams lined the shelves. Canning jars and crocks were just a small part of the treasures found on those crowded shelves. Being a woman of many talents my mother's pantry was a storage area for all sorts of other goodies as well.
