Mixed Reality In Architecture, Design, And ConstructionMixed Reality In Architecture, Design, And Construction

Mixed Reality is moving out of the research-labs into our daily lives. It plays an increasing role in architecture, design and construction. The combination of digital content with reality creates an exciting synergy that sets out to enhance engagement within architectural design and construction.

Construction and MaterialityConstruction and Materiality

The second book in the Basics Architecture series explores the materials used in construction today: stone and brick, concrete, timber, steel and glass, and composites. Reviewing the history of these materials puts them in context, revealing applications in both historical and contemporary architecture. Each chapter showcases the work of a master architect, such as Frank Lloyd Wright or Louis Kahn, whose work is associated with that material. Projects by such greats as Eric Parry, Caruso St. John, Zaha Hadid, Nicholas Grimshaw Architects, Rem Koolhaas, Norman Foster, Jean Nouvel, dRMM, and more are included.

Skew Fields: Theory of General Division Rings (Encyclopedia of Mathematics and its Applications)Skew Fields: Theory of General Division Rings (Encyclopedia of Mathematics and its Applications)

Algebraists have studied noncommutative fields (also called skew fields or division rings) less thoroughly than their commutative counterparts. Most existing accounts have been confined to division algebras, i.e. skew fields that are finite dimensional over their center. This work offers the first comprehensive account of skew fields. It is based on the author's LMS Lecture Note Volume "Skew Field Constructions". The axiomatic foundation and a precise description of the embedding problem precedes an account of algebraic and topological construction methods. The author presents his general embedding theory with full proofs, leading to the construction of skew fields.

Construction Materials: Their Nature and BehaviourConstruction Materials: Their Nature and Behaviour

So far in the twenty-first century, there have been many developments in our understanding of materials’ behaviour and in their technology and use. This new edition has been expanded to cover recent developments such as the use of glass as a structural material. It also now examines the contribution that material selection makes to sustainable construction practice, considering the availability of raw materials, production, recycling and reuse, which all contribute to the life cycle assessment of structures. As well as being brought up-to-date with current usage and performance standards, each section now also contains an extra chapter on recycling.
