Young Learners past papers from ESOL – an essential part of any preparation course for Young Learners English Tests.
This collection of three colourful Flyers practice tests has been specially prepared for publication by UCLES, and provides an excellent opportunity for children, parents and teachers to familiarise themselves with the appearance and content of each paper in the test.

A message in a bottle relays an urgent plea from the long-missing Captain Grant. His ship, the Britannia, has sunk. He is alive but is being held hostage. Captain Grant's children, Mary and Robert, along with their friend and benefactor Lord Glenervan launch a rescue expedition. But where do they begin their search? The original SOS message written in three languages is partially destroyed by sea water. The remaining fragments can be interpreted several ways. Only one clue is certain, Captain Grant is somewhere along the 37th parallel. Racing against time, risking their lives, the brave adventurers are determined to find and save the shipwrecked captain.
English Adventure uses familiar Disney characters that children know and love to motivate and encourage pupils to learn. At this level a balance of Disney characters and real life situations keep pupils interested and motivated. The focus is on oral communication but the children work more with the written language at this level.
Teachers are often rather strange people, particularly English teachers! They repeat the same words and ask children to say and do absurd things. This teacher, however, is not just a bit strange, but really mad... raving mad! By the end of the story children realise that a mad teacher is better than a sane and boring one!
Not all aliens are bad. However, being friends with a kind alien may have its negative points! Activities focus on a listening exercise on transport, a quiz, a crossword and a number game. A special feature is that children can use cut-out page in the book, to make their own musical horns.
