Combining elements of science fiction and detective stories, Swartzwelder presents a comedy full of jokes and humorous situations. The main character is a klutzy detective named Frank Burly and his pursuit of a time machine.
A comedy science fiction novel, featuring slow-witted detective Frank Burly. By John Swartzwelder, the author of "The Time Machine Did It", "Double Wonderful", and 59 episodes of The Simpsons.
Frank Burly's back, this time augmenting his act with a mostly-malfunctioning jetpack. His inability to steer is overshadowed, however, by his ability to withstand multiple explosive collisions, and he becomes something of a superhero. The new title doesn't fit him so well, because it requires that he get up before noon and commit all kinds of acts, most of them selfless and painful. He ends up getting involved in a battle against a super villain, a washed up James Bond type, and another time machine.
Dead Men Scare Me Stupid is an adventure of Frank Burly, the world's most dimwitted, yet likeable, detective. In this adventure two of his former clients, who are not-so-coincidentally deceased, come to haunt and torment him from beyond the grave. The most devious of their actions is framing Frank for many unexplained crimes. The story takes off from there and doesn't stop. Even Amelia Earhart's body makes an appearance. Yep, that's right.
Spoiler! Swartzwelder wins. In his latest Frank Burly scifi extravaganza, John Swartzwelder does not disappoint. In Earth vs. Everybody, Swartzwelder reminds his devoted followers why they will never stop buying his books the week they are released. No, not every single joke was the funniest thing I'd ever read. Yes, I looked like a crazy person, laughing uncontrollably as I read the book in public.
