The CELTA Teaching Compendium

CELTA (the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) and other similar qualifications, are typically taken intensively over 4-5 weeks. To succeed, trainees have to ensure that they respond quickly to feedback on their teaching, but the intensity of the course can make it difficult to really take everything in.

A compendium is ‘a collection of concise but detailed information about a particular subject’ and The CELTA Teaching Compendium sets out to provide a quick, easy reference to all the key practical teaching skills taught in CELTA.  It explains the essential things trainees need to know, with useful tips and suggestions. The contents are listed alphabetically, so that the reader can dip in and out.  Whenever another key skill is referred to, there is a link to that section.

Clearly there is in fact no ‘right’ way to teach. However, the suggestions and tips in this book are based on years of teaching and training teachers, and should provide reliable guidance and support for CELTA trainees or more newly qualified teachers.
