401 Deskside Activities For Energetic Kids is a movement resource book, written for classroom teachers of kindergarten to third grade, especially the ones who have three or more ADHD mainstreamed children in their classroom. It contains small educational movement breaks that teachers can use between other more mental class activities. These movements help to keep a consistent energy level and attention level in all the students so that learning can take place.
The book has enough activities for every day of the school year. It begins with activities for developing gross motor skills, prereading shapes, alphabet recognition, and moves through progressively more complex skills and concepts, ending with abstract math concepts. Contents include:
information on learning styles
how to reach ADHD children through movement
shape recognition through body movement
stretching and relaxing movements
shaking and awaking movements
pantomime and imagination movements
more complex movement games, including improv, rhythm and clapping, balancing, and team relays and activities.
Icons used throughout the book help the teacher decide the appropriateness of the activity for a specific class on a specific day. The activities are marked according to appropriate age levels, length of play time, and group size. Most of the activities are non-competitive and none require special skills or training. The book is easy to use, and contains helpful illustrations.
