Discovering U.S. History Modern America 1964-presentDiscovering U.S. History Modern America 1964-present

“Discovering U.S. History” spans the complex and varied history of the United States from prehistoric times to the present day. This new chronological set can be read as a whole, pring readers with a comprehensive history, or as standalone volumes, with each title serving as a time capsule of a particular era. Each title brings to life the people and events that have shaped the nation through a clear and entertaining narrative, interesting boxed insets, and lively full-color and black-and-white photographs and illustrations. Students will find these books valuable for reports, prime supplements to textbooks, or simply interesting reading.

FuckFuck

This is a book about the word fuck and its intersection with
the law and the concept of taboo. In the first chapter,
“Why Fuck?” I explain why I didn’t sanitize the title. I applaud
my publisher and editors for supporting this decision.
Because of this title, my book will likely be the target of
many a giggle from middle schoolers. Some parents may
shield their kids’ eyes. Those same youthful eyes could
just as easily end up reading this book under the covers by
flashlight—drawn to it by the very taboo that makes fuck a
dirty word.

From Aesop to Zwerger, this title holds a wealth of information about children's literature in an easily accessible, alphabetized format. To create the work, some material was taken from the earlier collection, Children's Books and Their Creators (Houghton, 1995), and combined with more than 100 new essays on more recent titles. When necessary, information from the previous title has been updated. In her introduction, Silvey states that she considered "historical importance, popularity, current interest in and availability of the books, and the overall contribution of the author or artist.

My Life and WorkMy Life and Work

The lessons of Henry Ford, one of America's greatest business innovators, are as fresh and vital today as they were in 1922, when this extraordinary book was first published. Though the title suggests the autobiographical, this is in fact a bible of business philosophy from the man many considered "insane" for the very innovations we hail as visionary today.
