Beowulf

BeowulfBeowulf

Beowulf probably was composed in England sometime in the eighth century AD and written down circa 1000 AD by a literate scop (bard) or perhaps a Christian scribe who was possibly educated in a monastery.
The poem was created in the oral-formulaic tradition (or oral poetic method), probably developing over a period of time with roots in folk tales and traditional stories until a single, very talented poet put it in something very near its current form.

The Iron QueenThe Iron Queen

In less than twenty-four hours I'll be seventeen.
Although, technically, I won't actually be turning seventeen. I've been in the Nevernever too long. When you're in Faery, you don't age. So while a year has passed in the real world, agewise I'm probably only a few days older than when I went in.
In real life, I've changed so much I don't even recognize myself.

Reading Eco: an anthology

Reading Eco: an anthologyReading Eco: an anthology

"[READING ECO is a timely indication] of the fruitfulness of perceiving Eco as the same in his metamorphoses. [It also testifies] to a certain price that Eco and his readers must/may pay for the enormous pleasure and intellectual stimulus of being Eco and being with Eco." -- The Comparatist Umberto Eco is, quite simply, a genius. He is a renowned medievalist, philosopher, novelist, a popular journalist, and linguist. He is as warm and witty as he is learned -- and quite probably the best-known academic and novelist in the world today. The goal of this anthology is to examine his ideas of literary semiotics and interpretation as evidenced both in his scholarly work and in his fiction.

The X-files - Fight the Future

The X-files - Fight the FutureThe X-files - Fight the Future

Written in perfectly deadpan, Mulderish style, Chris Carter's X-Files: Fight the Future movie novelization (adapted by noted SF author Elizabeth Hand) is a faithful reproduction of the film, with the addition of a couple of cutting-room-floor sequences to make it worth an X-phile's while. X-Files neophytes will probably be confused by the appearance of unexplained characters and in-jokes, but the story is like a really good episode of the show, and if you can be hooked, you will be.
