A story on love and friendship by Oscar Wilde. The story is about a fisherman who catches a mermaid. He lets her go because she promises to help him fish. Each day the mermaid appears and sings her song, so he falls in love with her! However, she cannot marry him until he has lost his human soul.
Teachers are often rather strange people, particularly English teachers! They repeat the same words and ask children to say and do absurd things. This teacher, however, is not just a bit strange, but really mad... raving mad! By the end of the story children realise that a mad teacher is better than a sane and boring one!
As an historical figure Mary Queen of Scots has been perpetually represented on canvas, page and stage, and has captured the British imagination since the time of her death in 1587. The 'real' Mary Stuart however has remained an enigma.
