Tintin and the Seven Crystal BallsTintin and the Seven Crystal Balls

The Seven Crystal Balls begins on a light note, as Captain Haddock tries to adjust to his new life as a gentleman following the events of Red Rackham's Treasure. He wears a monocle and frequents the music hall, where in a not-unusual coincidence he and Tintin happen to find General Alcazar (The Broken Ear) and the dreaded diva Bianca Castafiore. However, it's the act of fakir Ragdalam with Madame Yamilah, the amazing clairvoyante, that reveals the central adventure: the scientists excavating the tomb of Racar Capac have incurred the curse of the Inca.--David Horiuchi

The Wind in the Willows (BBC Radio Presents) [AUDIOBOOK/MP3]

The Wind in the Willows (BBC Radio Presents) [AUDIOBOOK/MP3]If you ever feel like falling into a beautiful comic-book story--in the same way one falls back into a warm field of grass--reach for Michel Plessix's lush adaptation of Kenneth Grahame's Wind in the Willows. The artwork is an aquarelle, with thin, precise, detailed lines. It's no wonder he received numerous awards for his previous effort, Julien Boisvert, a contemporary take on the Tintin character type. In Wind in the Willows, Plessix breathes life into Mole, Rat, and Toad (of Toad Hall) as they picnic on the riverbank, indulge in Toad's latest fad, and get lost in Wild Wood.

Tintin and the PicarosTintin and the Picaros

Many years ago when my love of Tintin books began, I always found this book made me a little sad. I had always figured this emotional reaction was due to the fact that Tintin and the Picaros is the last of the wonderful series. However, after reading the excellent book Tintin and the World of Herge by Benoit Peeters, I understood that the great Herge himself was reaching the end of his rope.
