This book very cleverly combines the academic study with a practical, accessible format. Margin summaries allow the browser to find relevant material. Most importantly, the book provides teachers with suggestions on how to better provide for the pupils who are hard to reach and hard to teach.

Dear Students:
Over the years many students were almost ready to leave the nursing profession, after many failed attempts, until they came to us. We helped them reach their dream. Our outstanding and dedicated faculty will instill confidence and provide you with the precise information you need to pass the NCLEX exam.
Let us help you get your nursing license. We hope to see you at the next class.
The contributors to this volume represent a consolidation of diverse sub-fields involved in the critical study of language, coming from backgrounds in sociocultural linguistics, as well as communication, media, cultural and political studies. A critical perspective and a focus on discourses of war and terrorism in light of 9/11 provide the central organizing principle shared among all the chapters.
The benefits of the book would be to: 1) raise the consciousness level within the teacher education profession by having educators who are highly respected by their colleagues come forth and present their case; 2) present a well-conceived and clearly articulated statement of their case; 3) provide a vision of what an appropriate role of colleges and universities may look like in a bestcase scenario, to provide a framework for institutions to review their programs and engage in introspection regarding their practices, relevance, and outcomes; 4) pull together the respected leadership in the profession and engage them in a common cause for the common good. To open up dialogue regarding the nature of the involvement in the enterprise, as well as delineation of future steps that need to be taken as part of a broader plan of action; and 5) present for the role of the university the intellectual contribution it makes to creating a profession. Through this, Dr Roth believed, ‘We would be modeling exactly what we are proposing.’
Practice-led research is a burgeoning area across the creative arts, with studio-based doctorates frequently favoured over traditional research. Yet until now there has been little published guidance for students embarking on such research. This is the first book designed specifically as a pedagogical tool and is structured on the model used by most research programmes. A comprehensive introduction lays out the book’s framework and individual chapters provide concrete examples of studio-based research in art, film and video, creative writing and dance, each contextualised by a theoretical essay and complete with references.
