(Mis)Representing Islam: The racism and rhetoric of British broadsheet newspapersThis book is a study of the discursive representation of Islam and Muslims in British broadsheet newspapers, analysing the ways in which they reproduce anti-Muslim racism. While the focus here is British newspapers, given the centripetal forces of political and economic globalisation, the greater standardisation of journalistic texts and the widespread and continuing influence of Orientalist scholarship (particularly in ‘the West’), the conclusions oŸered may be useful to studies of broadsheet, or ‘quality’ newspaper reporting in other countries.

Jihad: From Qu'ran to bin LadenJihad, ranging in concept from personal inner struggle to outright holy war, dates to the earliest manifestations of Islam. This book locates the origin of jihad, traces its evolution as an idea, and provides an intellectual history of the concept of jihad in Islam as well as how it has been misapplied by modern Islamic terrorists and suicide bombers. The book provides unique and balanced coverage of the historical evolution of the concept of jihad, and mainstream moderate Islamic views of the concept from the Qu'ran to the twenty-first century.

ISLAM DENOUNCES TERRORISM

One of the sad and tragic effects of 9/11 was the misperception that terrorism has divine approval in Islam. Islam Denounces Terrorism thoroughly debunks this notion by looking at both the Qur’an and the historical record. With extensive color illustrations, the book covers such timely topics as Islamic morality, how the Qur’an views war, the real face of the terrorists who act in the name of religions, and much more.
