Задачей данного пособия является создание у учащихся лингвострановедческого минимума фоновых знаний о США в процессе овладения различными видами речевой деятельности (чтением, говорением, письменной речью) с целью активного использования этих знаний в ситуациях реального общения. Пособие предполагает определенный уровень сформированности речевых навыков и умений (в частности, в группах совершенствования навыков устной речи в системе АН СССР в пределах программы первого года обучения) и предназначено для групп второго года обучения.
