Thornton W Burgess was born in 1874 in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He was known as a conservationist and writer of children's books. Burgess loved the beauty of nature so much that during a fifty-year span he wrote 170 books and 15000 stories centered on nature and animals. Peter Rabbit and Jerry Muskrat are two of his most memorable characters. The Adventures of Paddy the Beaver was written in 1917. Paddy the Beaver and his animal friends have adventures in the Green Meadow.
Jimmy Skunk has a long, hard day but comes out the winner in this captivating tale that tells how Reddy Fox is tricked into doing something he never intended to do and how a mischievous Peter Rabbit gets his comeuppance for playing nasty tricks on fellow creatures of the Green Meadow. A warm, whimsical adventure.
"Men are strange creatures! I think I'll hunt one some day just to teach him a lesson," says Lightfoot the Deer to his new friend, Peter Rabbit. Lightfoot is glad of all the animal friends he meets in the Green Forest -- especially Paddy the Beaver, who saves him from harm. But what about these men? There's that strange one -- the farmer. Should Lightfoot trust this man -- when a second one is stalking him with a terrible gun? Thornton Burgess's tales of woodland and meadow have delighted readers young and old for nearly a century.
The Joyous Cosmology: Adventures in the Chemistry of Consciousness
The Joyous Cosomology is one of the most powerful and at the same time fun books I've ever read. It is unfortunate that it is out of print because it has much to show readers concerning the imaginative construction and deconstruction of this universe. This is perhaps Watts' most direct and creative work and it has the potential to open up many doors in the readers mind. The photography in the book is a wonderful addition and works well to spark the imagination into re-creating our perceptions of reality.
