My First CD-Rom: NumberMy First CD-Rom: Number

Dorling Kindersley has produced an excellent series of interactive parent-assisted learning packages designed for young children, of which My First Number is one. The CD-ROM is aimed at children aged 3-5 years and is especially useful for pre-school children or those needing more practice in early learning number skills. Reading Critically at UniversityThis book is designed around the assumption that ‘thinking’ is the core competency of the graduate, more specifically, ‘applied critique’. This means an ability to critique contemporary problems systematically and constructively, using multiple stances methodically. This is a core competency, which can later be thoughtfully evolved through experience in the workplace. Applied critique is knowledge that stands the test of time by providing the generic skill to evaluate any particular problem, technique, fad or common- sense solution that comes over the horizon, whether at home, at work or in your community.

The Crossing by Cormac McCarthyThe Crossing by Cormac McCarthyby Cormac McCarthy

The opening section of The Crossing, book two of the Border Trilogy, features perhaps the most perfectly realized storytelling of Cormac McCarthy's celebrated career. Like All the Pretty Horses, this volume opens with a teenager's decision to slip away from his family's ranch into Mexico. In this case, the boy is Billy Parham, and the catalyst for his trip is a wolf he and his father have trapped, but that Billy finds himself unwilling to shoot. His plan is to set the animal loose down south instead.
