Sometimes, they just can't compete with a more popular rival language. This is the case of these for Gallo-Italic languages: Emiliano-Romagnolo, Ligurian, Lombard, and Piedmontese.
It isn't always beneficial to be thinking in you target language as you learn. Sometimes, translating between your native language and the new one can give you more insights.
