Welcome to the Research Methods in Education Handbook for The Open University Masters Programme in Education. This is supplied to all students on entry to the Programme. It is designed to assist you in your study at postgraduate level. All of the modules in the Masters Programme demand an ability to interpret and assess evidence, and often this evidence comes from research studies. In addition, some of the modules also require students to carry out small-scale investigations. Guidance is provided in the modules about both these types of activity. However, as a result of limitations on space and time, the modules are not able to supply an in-depth introduction to research methodology. This research methods handbook is designed to provide such an introduction, and thereby to supplement the materials in individual modules and to serve as an important resource in your work on the Masters Programme.
