Astrud Gilberto was born on 29 Mar 1940 in Bahia, Brazil. Her birth name was Astrud Weinert.
She is a singer best known for her samba and bossa nova music. Gilberto received the "Latin Jazz USA Award for Lifetime Achievement" in 1992, and was inducted to the "International Latin Music Hall of Fame" in 2002.
